FAQs

KIDS FOR THE CULTURE CAMP FAQ’S

Q: Can white children attend?

A: Yes. Although priority is given to BIPOC children, there is always space and room for everyone to learn in a positive and inclusive environment.

Q: Are there scholarships for attending the camp?

A: Yes, they are based on income, and family size. Priority is given to Foster Children. However, we rely on donations and fundraising to ensure no child is unable to attend due to financial reasons.

Q: Are mentors, teachers and camp counselors equipped to work with children with disabilities, invisible or otherwise.

A: Yes, and no. The child’s disability has to be well managed, for safety for themselves and others. If the child has a caregiver the family works with, they are more than welcome to attend with no charge. We are prepared to work with anyone with learning disabilities and physical limitations. Language barriers can be indicated at registration and translators or sign language interpreters can be provided or the family can provide whom they are comfortable with, provided the caregivers and interpreters have passed a background check. Again, at no charge.

Q: Is there transportation?

A: Yes, we will transport campers to the site, parents have the option to pick children up on the last day of the camp. We will be dropping students back as well.

Q: When does the camp usually run?

A: It is scheduled for the first week in August, generally.

Q: Is there a nurse on the premises?

A: The nurse position is a volunteer. We aim to have a nurse on the premises each day and night, whoever the nurse is, is determined before each year. There staff is trained in CPR, and equipped with First Aid Kits.

ANTI RACISM CONVERSATIONS FAQ’s

Q: Are the Anti Racism Conversations for businesses or private groups?

A: Both!

Q: Do the sessions have to be in person?

A: No, however the impact of course, is stronger when we are in the same space together. 2020 has taught us well in regards to the use of technology to bring a room together. This is also a viable and ongoing option.

Q: Can I buy one session or do I have to buy 3 at a time?

A: You can buy one session, or three or six. The more sessions you are able to purchase the more impactful the information.

Q: Do I have to have 10 people in my session?

A: No. However, I charge each session by time. The group number is maxed at 10, however there is no minimum number of people. A session can be one on one if desired.

Q: Are you able to facilitate groups larger than 10?

A: I am able to facilitate groups larger than 10. HOWEVER, for the conversations offered it is designed for give and take dialogue in a group. Groups larger than 10 tend to lose the ability to have open dialogue within the group therefore losing the quality of the processes impact. I do offer webinars, and direct consulting which is very different from the conversations offered here.

Q: Can we cut the hours of the sessions to an hour or split the time?

A: Each session is a two hour block. If 2 hours feels too long, I would suggest attending a webinar that is periodically offered, or consider consultation which the time can be flexible and is billed by the hour.

CULTURAL MENTORSHIP FAQ’S:

Q: Can my child be with me during our sessions?

A: I would not recommend it if your child is school aged, lots of in the moment questions aren’t necessarily productive to the process. However, no sessions will be canceled if your child is present.

Q: Can I buy mentorship if my child is under school age?

A: Absolutely!! The earlier the work begins the better!

Q: Can I have other parents with me in a session?

A: If the parents are a set mix of people for the sessions, then yes. I would not recommend different parents rotating in and out of sessions.
